This level of customization requires a flexible product lineup and agile operations teams. One of the first steps after a customer expresses interest in a specific hosted service plan is to start migrating mailbox data to the new platform.
For cost-conscious customers, AppRiver offers a free migration method. However, this method, called PST import / export, requires manual intervention and can result in suboptimal migration performance. Petree recalls his experience: “The customer had to export all the mailboxes to individual PST files and use FTP to transfer the files. After that, we have to manually import each PST file into the users’ mailbox in our hosted environment. This service is offered at no charge to the customer despite the time commitment required. It works great if the customer has the time and small mailboxes. As you’ll find today, most administrators do not have the time to wait to export and import to complete and, also, the overall time it takes to do a manual migration.”
